Me and Brooke Shields

So I guess Brooke Shields and I have a lot in common. I beside the fact that I’m not a successful TV actress, or a millionaire, nor did I star on a controversial early 80s flick that critics have likened to child pornography. Also, I’ve never modeled for Calvin Klein. Ok, so really I have nothing in common with Ms. shields, other than that we share the diagnosis of post-partum depression. (and a dislike of Tom Cruise). Oh and the Other difference is the fact that she brought a baby home and my post-partum is the special post-miscarriage kind. I started taking lexapro four days ago. I DIDNT WANT TO. but i was letting it consume me and I had to do it. I will ramp up my mg, plateau and then she will wean back down and hopefully off. I have a therapy appoinent for the 7th. For the past 2 days I have felt like getting out of bed, well, almost. Thank you everyone for your kind words. It’s sometimes hard to respond on my iPhone and I’ve taken a break from my computer. But I Still wanted to say thanks. Ya know…

  1. Seeing as happy pills basically saved my life, I think it’s awesome that you’re getting things taken care of.
    Huge hugs!

  3. I agree with Mo – thank gawd for happy pills. I have taken them at a few different points and they seriously made such a huge difference. I hope that you respond as well as I have and are feeling better soon.

    • I’m so glad I did it. It was the last thing I wanted to do but I am already feeling so much better. My husband can’t believe the change that they have made in me in just a week and a half. I guess sometimes you have to do what is best even if its not what you want to have to do. Thank you for your replies though, Its nice to know Im not the only person having to go this route to try and get better.

The following is a true story. I used to live near Ms. Shields. We were qt the same bagel place. Her older daughter was 3 or 4 then, and asked me to sit with them. I didn’t know them at all. Brooke said, “she is bossy. You better sit”. We had a tea party. I worked up the courage and I thanked Brooke for speaking out against Tom Cruise’s ridiculous comments about medicine. I told her that if he thought depression and ADD was fake, I dared him to live with me when I was not on my meds. She hugged me and said she knew what I meant.

It was in the top 5 coolest things that ever happened to me.

    You are not alone.

    • Wow, that is really cool, and ya, I’m thinking Tom Cruise should have met me 2 weeks ago and then again today. WOW. Different person here. I love celebrities like Brooke Shields who speak out on thier experiences and stand up for themselves while helping others. It makes it nice for the rest of us when someone in the public eye admits to things like post-partum, infertility, etc..
